FIRE PROTECTION
PROGRAM ASSESSMENT

The purpose of the Fire Protection Program Assessment (FPPA) is to ensure that the assessed Fire Protection Program meets the requirements of 10 CFR 851, Worker Safety and Health Program.  It is an in-depth and comprehensive assessment that evaluates the adequacy of the overall Fire Protection Program.

DOE orders require that a FPPA be conducted to evaluate the fire protection program at all DOE installations.  This assessment fulfills that requirement by evaluating the following general and specific elements:

Comprehensiveness of the Fire Protection Program
Fire Suppression Organizations
Design Requirements
Fire Suppression Mutual Aid Agreements
Management Support
Adequacy of Fire Protection Engineering Studies
Fire Protection Systems
Deficiency Identification and Tracking
Impairment Process
Conformance with Applicable Orders, Codes, and Standards

The elements of the program are evaluated by physical reviews of applicable documents and by interviews with key personnel.
