PRE-FIRE PLANS

TetraTek’s Pre-Incident Planning (PIP) Process evaluates the protection, construction, and operational features of specific occupancies.  These PIPs will help ensure responding emergency response personnel can effectively manage emergency incidents with available resources.

A PIP should not be confused with fire inspections, which monitor code compliance. Pre-incident planning involves evaluating the protection systems, building construction, contents, and operating procedures that can impact emergency operations.

Pre-incident planning is a total concept based upon the following guidelines: awareness of the problem, management commitment, education, prevention, protection, and emergency organization. A thorough PIP involves information gathering, analysis, and dissemination; applying the “what-if-approach”; and planning reviewing, training, and evaluating.  With Principle Committee members serving on NFPA 1620, Pre-Incident Planning, TetraTek will ensure the latest guidelines are incorporated into each PIP.

The following elements are examples of data that are contained in TetraTek's PIPs:

Response and staging information
Construction characteristics
Occupant characteristics
Protection systems
Detailed response drawings
Availability of mutual aid
Water supply
Special conditions and hazards
Capabilities of public or industrial responding personnel
Exposure factors
Description of contents
Special fire fighting recommendations
